New trend alert! Modern coastal, Japandi, and Maximalism are hitting the scene and make up this season's hottest trends.
Modern Coastal
This is a new take on coastal design- focused on combining light, airy neutrals with bold and serious hues. Classic coastal design is comprised of beachy prints, vibrant colors, and sea-themed decor. Adding a modern touch gives a simplified take. You still feel like you're at the beach without the seashell and dolphin decor everywhere. In the above photo, a coastal vibe is still present without the kitschy accessories. Note the deep blue walls contrasted with white board and batten, ocean photography, and nautical pillows. This is the ideal way to bring the beach home without being tacky.
Japandi
A new trend combining elements of the Scandinavian practice of hygge and Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. The intersection of the two results in a comforting, cozy atmosphere that values slow living and simplicity. The color theme here is muted neutrals - light beige, oatmeal, stone, light wood tones, etc.
Maximalism
The opposite of minimalism - this style came back around during the pandemic when people were spending more time at home. Filling the home with personal touches and loads of art can make a boring space seem full of life.
